Kerja Malam

@ night shift


arrived really early to work this morning. It was before 7.00 am and it is still dark.

Park my car, switch off the lights and I went across the street. The stall was only lighted by some candles. The streets are empty, and the various steel, mechanics and small medium industries shops and building appears rustic under this light. Very romantic in a way.

Got myself a Nasi goreng and put some sambal sotong in it and then procced to the counter. Most of the time it would be "berapa kak? (ie. how much kak? ^) and she would mumble something and I duly produce some big notes to hide the fact that I can't hear her.

Today however, it appeared that she got some time to spare. After I ask her "how much" and she mumbled the figure she then asked "Kerja Malam ye?" (translation : Night shifts?)

huh?

noticing my confused face she continued "takde lah, pagi ni awal betul lepas tu semalam kan ke adik balik kerja pukul 6 lebih? akak perasan kereta adik keluar lepas subuh masa akak tengah masak" *

Oh! ermmm.... realising that this is an industrial area and it is kinda normal for people to work double shifts and also there is no point explaining to her that i was rushing some proposal and paperwork I just proceed with

"ah! ah! Banyak kerja sikit la kak"** took the balance and walk away.

as I crossed the street I can't help but chuckle to myself. Well, now I'm a factory worker with an Audi.

*translation : "No lah, just that this morning you're really early and yesterday I saw you left the office at around 6 plus in the morning. I notice your car left the building while I was preparing the food"

**translation : "ah.. yes, got a bit of work to do"
